Ernest Cook University
Ernest Cook University (ECU) is a private University offering a wide range of courses with a niche in health-related programmes. The name Ernest Cook was derived from the nephew of Sir Albert Cook who was called Dr. Ernest Cook. The Choice to name the University after Dr. Ernest Cook was made after his contribution to imaging in Uganda and the East African region where he brought the first X-ray machine in Uganda that was installed in Mengo Hospital in 1910. ECU began as Ernest Cook Ultrasound Research and Education Institute (ECUREI) whose initial seed was teaching and training Ultrasound.
ECUREI was launched by H.E. the President of the Republic of Uganda in 2002 and later received a provisional license to operate as an Other Degree Awarding Institution (ODAI) in 2006. In 2013 ECUREI was licensed to operate as an Other Degree Awarding Institution (ODAI).
